5-Axle Sets
There are two basic versions of 5-axle trucks: steering axles 1+2+3 or steering axles 1+2+5.
A 3- or 4-axle base vehicle can be converted into a 5-axle configuration by adding a mechanically steered 2nd front axle behind the front axle. A rear additional axle — non-steering, mechanically steered, or electro-hydraulically steered — can be added in front of or behind the drive axle.
The additional axle is usually air-suspended and lift-able. Maximum axle loads are between 8 and 13 tonnes depending on the configuration.

An 8x4 (2+2) base vehicle is converted into a 10x4 by adding one mechanically steered lift-able air-sprung 22.5" axle 1370 mm in front of the drive axle. Suitable in front of an air- or leaf-sprung rear-axle assembly for 300 mm frames at CHH-STD height.

A 6x4 base vehicle is converted into a 10x4 by adding two mechanically steered lift-able air-sprung 22.5" axles: one 1990–2590 mm behind the front axle and one 1370 mm in front of the drive axle. Fits an air- or leaf-sprung chassis with a 300 mm frame at CHH-STD and -MED heights.

An 8x4 (2+2) base vehicle is converted into a 10x4 by adding one hydraulically steered lift-able air-sprung 22.5" axle behind the air- or leaf-sprung drive axle. Available with older ZF hydraulic steering (HS/HT) or newer electro-hydraulic ME system (EHS/EHT). Fits 300 mm frames at CHH-STD and -MED heights.
