4-Axle Sets
A 3-axle base vehicle can be converted into a 4-axle one by adding:
- A mechanically steered 2nd front axle behind the front axle
- A mechanically steered single-wheel rear axle in front of the drive axle
- An electro-hydraulically steered single-wheel rear axle in front of the drive axle
- An electro-hydraulically steered dual-wheel rear axle behind the drive axle
The additional axle is usually air-sprung and lift-able. The maximum axle loads of the additional axle range between 9 and 13 tonnes depending on the configuration.

Mechanically steered, lift-able air-sprung Volvo 10-tonne axle for 6x4 / 6x2 base vehicles, behind the leaf- or air-sprung front axle, for the CHH-HIGH frame height. The 2nd-axle load-transfer (press-down) function is fitted as standard with a separate switch ��� the 1st axle can be driven, for example, over the edge of a ditch when needed in a tight turning spot.

The electro-hydraulically steered axle frees the entire side of the frame for superstructures. This lift-able air-sprung 10-tonne axle is suitable for 6x2 / 6x4 / 6x6 base vehicles, in front of the air- or leaf-sprung drive axle, for the CHH-HIGH frame height. The steering cylinder sits behind the axle, above the track rod.
